Scheepvaart - Maritime Museum, Amsterdam: 52 reviews and 78 photos
THE NETHERLANDS MARITIME MUSEUM collections is one of the largest of its kind in the world.
A major part of it is on display in the permanent exhibition, while in addition there are regular temporary shows.
The objects on permanent display provide a chronological survey of Dutch Maritime History.
The principal topics include overseas trade, naval wars, fishery, inland shipping, sailing for pleasure, navigation and carthography.
The themes are illjustrated by old boats, models of ships, paintings, maps and instruments, weapons and other authentic objects.
The museum building was originally built by the Amsterdam Admiralty as an Arsenal (Navy).
In 1973 the Navy left the building and it was turned into the Museum you see now.
Enjoy it to the full!
