  Swayambhunath Temples

In the NW section of Kathmandu, actually a few miles from the main tourist area of Thamel, is the large temple compex on top of Swayambhunath. You can drive, or be driven to a parking area near the top of the hill or you can gain more karma and ascend the hill via the steps on the eastern side. The hill is known as the Monkey Hill and you will soon see why as they are all around the temples atop and scurrying around in the trees and on the steps of the eastern approach. Either entry has its peddler gamut that you must endure. Atop, you have a fine view out over the Kathmandu valley. The temples are quite stunning, visually, auditorially and olfactorially.
