Fort Griffin General Merchandise & Beehive Saloon: "Texas Monthly's Best Small Steakhouse!" Abilene Restaurant Tip by prairiemomma23
Abilene Restaurants: 13 reviews and 5 photos
You can't imagine how great a steak can be until you have tasted one cooked by owner Ali Esfandiary. The candlelit tables with linens & fresh flowers are a juxtaposition to the Old West facade and decor. The quality and presentation of the food makes this a MUST for any visitor to the area that has a taste bud in his head and a dollar in his pocket. Their mainstay is Mesquite grilled steaks, fish, and chicken. Thursday nights are All You Can Eat Shrimp nights, offering boiled and fried shrimp. Expect a long wait behind loads of out-of-towners, some parking helipcopters in the park across the street and others arriving in packed Suburbans.
Favorite Dish: My personal favorite is an off the menu item. I love the way Ali prepares a peppered filet with spicy peppercorn and garlic. This steak is two inches thick and you can cut it with your fork. Never ask for steak sauce. You will never need to add to anything prepared at this restaurant. (Well, o.k., you may want ketchup if you order fries.) The Special of the Day is always wonderful. Shrimp Night means a packed house. If you have room for dessert, order a slice of Auddrena Smith's homebaked pies. Better than your Grandma ever made. Closed Sundays and Mondays.
