  Steam Pomfret Fish
by Audrey118

This was a surprise. We were not hungry at all but our host wanted to take us to eat steam fish - one of my favourite food.

It is a small 'coffee shop like place - not fancy - and they have got dishes in large platters in the front of the shop. Once you are seated you order what you want. We ordered large head prawns - fried, and also steam fish - 4 plates, and we just sat and waited. Meanwhile, I munched some local crackers - empeng - but these had a orange colour of them - it was sweetish yet spicy. YUM.

Then suddenly out of nowhere people just bring ladens of small dishes in front of you. Once you eat some, you will be charged for each of the plate. So take away the plates of dishes you do not want. There were at least 10 plates - some beef rendang, some fried small chicken, a few variety of vege, some bergedil - potato corquet, some fried tempe - fermented soybeans etc.

we only had prawns, chicken fried, and each of us had a plate of steam pomfret fish. For Malaysians who had Teochew steam fish - this is quite similar. It has the fish, lots of stock, and on top has slivers of garlic, lots of bird eye chilli, and some scatter of saltish yellow beans (tauceo) and slices of ginger and onion. Steamed to perfection it was tops!!!
