The Black Rock at Ka'anapali Beach
by seamandrew

The Black Rock can be found at the north end of Ka'anapali Beach in Western Maui. Embedded into the rock is the Maui Sheraton. The Black Rock is an excellent snorkeling site with a wide variety of sea critters making their home here. Elisabeth and I snorkeled twice and we encounted all different types of fish species including the two Humuhumunukunukuapua'a species (Picasso and Lagoon triggers), a spotted eagle nose ray, white spotted puffers and more. We also encountered three different green sea turtles. A must for snorkelers.

Another thing to catch at the Black Rock is the sunset. A native Hawaiian runs through all the the Sheration lighting all the torches with a flame he carries. He then scales the wall of the Black Rock, lights the torches on the way down and then dives into the sea. Pretty cool to watch.

Directions: You can't miss it. It's at the North End of Ka'anapali Beach and the South End of Kahekili beach. Look for the Sheraton.
