Relais du Perigord: "STAY HERE" Siorac-en-Périgord Hotel Tip by dnwitte

Relais du Perigord is a fairly ordinary hotel with decent beds, working plumbing, and an unbeatable location steps from the station. The attached restaurant is excellent.
The building is a long two storey stone building draped with flowers and local charm. The little square in front is virtually without activity, although you can see the little local trains go by from time to time.

Unique Qualities: We were wondering how such a large establishment could support itself in the apparent absence of tourism, and we thought the desk clerk was being unnecessarily picky about checking her book when we arrived. The Place de la Poste was deserted and the loudest sound in the hotel was the electric fan in the bar. We took our room rejoicing and went out for predinner cocktails.
Oh. About twenty minutes before dinner time three enormous tour buses pulled up in front of our room and out spilled enormous numbers of elderly French tourists. That explained everything. We speculate that Relais du Perigord probably has a contract with French tour companies--dinner, bed, and out the next morning at dawn. This was slightly shattering to our hard won tranquillity--why do people have to fuss so about their comimgs and goings?
Never mind. The attached restaurant is excellent, and was packed with happy people. The local food is extraordinary, running to things like goose neck stuffed with foie gras and truffles, cassoulet, duck confit, and remarkable cheeses.
