The local Public Transit Authority is called the MVV in the Greater Munich Area. Basically it covers the following areas: Most westward point Geltendorf; most eastward point Ebersberg; most southern point Wolfratshausen; most northern point Freising.

You ticket is not valid when you receive it, and will only be valid, when you punch it in the orange box of the bus, tram or train you get on.

Ticket Strips - If you want to take 10 individual rides or 10 people, or combine them, you can get a little discount if you buy a 10 unpunched ticket strip from the vending machine - depending on the zones you want to travel through, you can save a little.
Single Day Ticket (Single Tageskarte) - the price also varies depending on the zones travelled. If you want one for the greater Munich area, it cost 5.50 Euro for the calendar day.
Partner Day Ticket (Partner Tageskarte) - the price also varies depending on the zones travelled. If you want one for the greater Munich area, it cost 9.50 Euro for the calendar day. Ticket is valid for you and 4 other adults. 2 children (under 14) count as one adult.
Children Discounts - Children from 6 -14 years of age pay half-price on single tickets. They can get a day ticket for the whole network for 1.80 Euro.
Under 21 Offer (U21 Angebot) - For young people between 15-20, when you buy a Ticket Strip. You only have to punch it half as often. Just punch it once for the destination trip. For the return trip, you don't need to punch it again. You also don't need to punch if you take your bike.
Bavaria Ticket (Bayern-Ticket) - for 21 Euro, you and up to 4 of your friends or relatives can have unlimited use the whole network from Mon-Fri, between 9 - 3 a.m. The ticket is not only valid for the MVV network but is valid state-wide.
