The first church on this site was built in 1855 and was called Cumberland Presbyterian Church. Rev William Brought was the first pastor as well as the Chief Justice of the county. This present church built in 1877, adopted the “First Presbyterian” name after the national denomination merger in 1906 and then adopted the “covenant” after admitting the Gastonia and Jiba congregations in 1912 and1963 respectivelyIt has been called the First Presbyterian since 1906 and is listed as a Texas Historic Landmark.
