  Jantar Mantar, New Delhi
by Canadienne

The Jantar Mantar is an observatory built in the 1700's. The instruments were erected in order to ensure that religous rituals were performed at the exact time of the appropriate planetary alignment.

It's located not very far from Connaught Place, in a small manicured park. It's pay entry, so once you're inside you leave all the postcard sales behind. . .

It's actually quite fun climbing around on the instruments (including a large sundial) and you can get some neat photos.

Directions: SW of Connaught Place
