"Gay Helsinki" Helsinki Favorite Tip by Scandic

Helsinki General: 193 reviews and 193 photos

Favorite thing: As a neighbor of Sweden and specially Stockholm, Helsinki has a lively gay culture if you compare other Finnish towns. Helsinki is not Miami or London, but if you are a gay this is absolutely a party town for you. If you think that homosexualism was criminalized in Finland until 1971, nowadays the situation is very very open minded. Homosexuals can registerate their relationships, but the adoption issue is still a big question.

The gay community in Helsinki is not very large, but there are still a couple of nice places to go out. In Eerikinkatu there is the popular gay bar Con Hombres at number 14. Just around the corner at Annankatu 32 is DTM (= Don't tell mama), the most popular gay club with the hottest music in town. There you can find "Tom of Finland" styled moustached men. Leatherman Tom was undoubtedly Finland's internationally best known gay individual (and artist, too).

In my opinion the gay bar Lost and Found 'Lostari' is absolutely the most fascinating party place for everyone. This is more night club, but there you don't have to be ashame anything. You can party with your own style.
