"Don't forget Alex" Egypt Off The Beaten Path Tip by FireMike
Egypt Off The Beaten Path: 250 reviews and 315 photos
Not exactly of the Beaten Path but very few tourists continue their travels north to Alexandria. Alex is much more cosmopolitan with many european influences. I guess it used to be even more multicultural but in the 80's a more fundamental muslim movement kicked in.
We did continue WAY OFF the beaten path to El Alamein to see the world war 2 museum. The museum itslef was a quite a let down, but the war cemetaries were interesting and the journey to get there on a third class train with nothing but locals was amazing. Not to mention the looks on the faces when the two non-arabs strolled into a cafe in the town of El Alamein.
