Waterloo, thanks its celebrity to the Duke of Wellington. From his headquarters, he drafted the message about the defeat of Napoleon in the battle of Mont-Saint-Jean. Although most of the fights took place on the territory of Braine-l'Alleud and the surrounding places, history remembers the battle of Waterloo with the Lion's Mount.

Until the end of the 18th century, Waterloo was a hamlet of Braine-l'Alleud. About twenty kilometres of Brussels, in the young province of Brabant Wallon, Waterloo plays an important economical, touristic and cultural role thanks to the dynamism of its companies and shops and the high cultural level of its inhabitants, coming from around the whole world.
