This square is named after Charlotte Luise von Sachsen-Hildburgshausen, the first wife of Duke Wilhelm of Nassau. The square is dominated by the Catholic Church of Bonifatius, which was erected in 1843 after plans of Philipp Hoffmann. In the middle of the Luisenplatz stands the Waterloo Obelisk, erected 1865 to commemorate the ?Nassauer? who lost their lives in the battle against Napoleon in 1815.
