"Local Favourite - FISH HEAD CURRY" Information & Sources Tip by urchinn

Information & Sources, Penang: 28 reviews and 35 photos

This dish is a much-loved local favourite which consists of a large fish head (usually red snapper), okra, brinjal/eggplant and tomatoes simmered in an aromatic spicy curry. The curry is very full-bodied due to the extensive use of Indian spices. Take your time to look for and pick out the sweet fish meat from the crevices of the fish head, dip in some curry and savour!

The eyes and cheek of the fish head (if dining with locals, they will usually help you out with locating these) are considered the best parts of the fish. I personally can't stomach eating an eyeball so for the brave ones, just dig in!

Usually served together with plates of steamed rice.

Favorite Dish: Found in most Indian Curry shops around Penang.
