The Duomo (main cathedral) of Venice is San Marco, located in Piazzale San Marco. Easily accessible by foot (follow the yellow signs posted on walls all the way from the train station) or "bus" (water bus stations are located directly across from the exit of the train station). If you go by water bus, try to take the route that winds through the Canale Grande (grand canal) so you can get a view of the rest of Venice.

Once in San Marco, you may have a wait to get inside the Cathedral. Often in Fall, the Piazza floods, and the wait in line can get a little wet and nasty. Wear shoes you don't care about for this time of year!

Piazzale San Marco also flanks the Doge Palace, into which connects the Bridge of Sighs (offering prisoners a last view of their beloved Venice as they crossed from court into prison cells).

This is the main square of Venice and offers great people watching. At certain times of year, this piazza also holds various festivities such as live music, carnivals, etc.
