In 1004 German Emperor Henrik II gave the Bled estate to Bishop Albuin of Brixen as a gift. Since then the castle was fortified, the moat was filled in, and it has become a tourist spot. There is a museum inside the castle and wonderful views from the top.
You can walk the roads to the castle, but you can also hike trails along the hill leading up to the castle. We hiked teh trails and it was an enjoyable hike through the trees and well worn path.
In the castle you will see the history of Bled from the first excavations, and the castle in individual stages of its historical development with furniture.
