  Sun over the Chugach Mountains

Favorite thing: Leaving Anchorage we skirt the Knik Arm of Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountains form a nice backdrop to the east. We pass Elmendorf Air Force Base and pass the towns of Whitney, Eagle River, Birchwood, and Eklutna.

Knik Arm is a faulted basin shaped by glaciation. Looking west over the arm you can see Mt Susitna, the Sleeping Lady rising to 4,379 feet.

Fondest memory: On this part of the ride, the passengers were busy introducing themselves and making new friends. Our trip had people from Japan, Australia, Holland, Italy, Canada, and Americans from Pennsylvania, Nevada, California, and Alaska.
