The Victoria Eugene Avenue connects the Madeleine Peninsula with the centre of the city, more specifically with the Promontory of Saint Martin. It bears the name of Queen Victoria Eugene of Battenberg, a grand-daughter of Queen Victoria of England, married to the King Alfonse XIII, the Royal couple that used to spend their Summers in Santander.
The Avenue is built upon the beach and lined with some of the most costly residences in Santander, including the sumptuous Casa Pardo (main picture), the main example of the Monterrey style in Santander (architecture inspired by the Monterrey Palace in Salamanca).
The views on the bay, the mountains and the beaches are stunning all the way to the palace. The whole walkway is conditionned with gardens and vantage points. It takes a good half an hour to walk from the Peninsula to the Festival Palace, but staying fit was never so classy and scenic.
