"Bone Church" Czech Republic Things to Do Tip by mbsimjam

Czech Republic Things to Do: 314 reviews and 407 photos

Located in Kutna Hora, or I mean in Sedlec, 2 km outside of Kutna Hora, this ossuary is the most spellbinding sight I have ever encountered with the whole chapel lined and stacked with real human bones from people that were buried just outside. It originated from the fact that a priest brought dirt from Golgotha and spread it on the grounds outside the ossuary. Hence everyone wanted to be buried there. There got to be so many people, because of the plague, that it began to stink. So the priest at the time, took some bones and bleached them and stacked them up and eventually built a bone chapel with a chandelier that contains every bone in the human body.

Address: Sedlec, just outside Kutna Hora
Directions: Take the bus to Kutna Hora and get off at Sedlec. it is just up the hill from the bus stop
