If you are going to visit London, do not forget to buy a travelcard in your home country.

I bought mine in the British tourism office in Brussels (Louizalaan). For a weekend I paid 10,50 Euro (= 6,10 pound). If I tell you that one ride with the metro costs 1,60 pounds. Well that is not so difficult to calculate, when you travel already 5 times by metro, you already have some profit.

It is also an advantage that you do not have stand in a queue to buy a ticket, or no need to search for small money if you want to buy a ticket from a vending machine.

You also can travel by bus with this card, and there a 1/3 profit when you make a boat ride on the Thames.
