The dome of Valencia's cathedral, or cimborrio as it is colloquially referred to, has an unusual cylindric or rather octogonal shape, similar to the bell tower's. While the Gothic style tends elsewhere to verticality, this dome is massive and bulky rather than slender. However, it provides plenty of light to the point of the building where the attention should be focused, creating an effect of majesty and spirituality. The alabaster windows contribute to the atmosphere by dispersing and nuancing the light in an admirable way.

The four scallops that sustain the dome are decorated with sculptures depicting the evangelists.
