This museum is dedicated to Duisburg?s history and really should be Must See for any travel junky to visit the area as it also has an extensive collection of old maps by Gerhard Mercator. ?Gerhard Who?? I hear you say! Well, share a thought for Duisburg?s most famous son next time you?ll need to resort to a map wherever you may be. It was Mercator who devised a way to properly transfer the globe?s three dimensions into the two-dimensional format of a conventional map. Despite all the advances in GPS, the Mercator map is still very much an indispensable tool for the seasoned traveller. And to think that it all started here?.
