"Philip Island" Phillip Island and Penguins Tip by cozmic_jen

Phillip Island and Penguins, Melbourne: 30 reviews and 44 photos

You can't beat the penguin parade for novelty factor! Its one of those tourist attractions that you can laugh along with rather than at! Ok... so it is a little tacky ... lots of tourists sit on raised seating overlooking the beach ... but the fairy penguins are so hillarious!

After dark they come back to shore after being out catching fish all day. As a result these miniture penguins are so stuffed full of fish they adopt a hillarious waddle as they make their way in groups up the beach and then to their nests. After seeing a few groups waddle up the beach, check out the board walks leading back to the entrance... you can see then just a few feet away making their way to their nests.

And if you were wondering ... the penguins are not scared at all of humans being so close. They have never know any different i suspect so to them it is prefectly normal!

Philip island also has some other wildlife attractions including a koala sanctuary, although don't expect to be able to see them up close like other sanctuary's in oz ... this is a game of hide and seek to spot them in their trees, although they can usually be located easily enough .. just look out for big groups of japanese tourists with their cameras!!

Address: South of Melbourne
Directions: Check out a map to get your bearings then it is reasonably well sign posted.
