Sweden Things to Do: 422 reviews and 839 photos
Göteborg was founded in 1621 by the Swedish King Gustav Adolf II. It is situated on the Swedish west coast and is Sweden's second largest city, with almost 500,000 inhabitants. The Göteborg region is a commercial and industrial centre, where world-famous companies, such as Volvo, SKF, Astra Zeneca, Nobelpharma, Hasselblad, Saab Ericsson Space and others, have headquarters or main offices. In addition, Chalmers University of Technology and Göteborg University are known to engage many of the best scientists in the world.
The harbour offers the opportunity for long or short excursions on the sea. The restaurants are excellent with an outstanding selection of fish and seafood on most menus.
The city is the place for a lot of large sport events such as the Gothia Cup, the worlds largest football tournament, with about 28,000 young players from all the world. The Ullevi (photo) is the largest stadium in the country with 43,200 seats of which 20,000 under a roof.
