Those looking for fine surrounds, regardless of price might want to consider the Columbus Inn, housed in the old City Hall building. Rates start around $100 a night. What are the rooms like? I don't know, I can't afford places like this! Nice building though. The public can also purchase walking and driving tour maps for $3 here.

Unique Qualities: This building has such an interesting history. Constructed in 1895 to serve as City Hall, this neo-Romanesque building also housed the police department, a basketball court (this is Indiana!), ballroom, courthouse, banquet hall, a public market and an exhibition hall. Columbus' major industry, the Cummins Engine Company, used this building as their headquarters in the early while their new facilities were built. Afterwards they hired a developer to refurbish the building as a first-class inn, spending almost $2 million. It has been regarded as one of the best B&B inn in the country.

Address: 445 Fifth Street
Comparison: more expensive than average
Theme: Inn
