  A foraging macaque
by phil_uk_net

Langkawi has a lot of long-tailed macaques roaming around. It was great watching their antics from a distance, or from inside a car.

Be aware though that they can be dangerous. The troop is looked after by a few adult males and in areas where there are humans they can get very aggressive.

On one occasion I tried to get close to a troop of about 50 monkeys to get some photos as they were raking around rubbish bins looking for food. The alpha male didn't like me doing this and came running towards me baring his teeth. Their teeth are large and, I have to admit, my heart started pounding. It was a scary experience. I backed away quickly, avoiding eye contact and he stopped coming at me.

They have attacked people before apparently and I would not like to receive a bite from one.
