The backwaters of Kerala are a string of lakes and wide canals which run up most of the length of the state. Local people tending the rice paddys live in small houses on the sides of the canals. Take a kettu vallam for one or two nights and travel ever so slowly along the beautiful rivers. Sleep on board with staff to cook and look after you. At night we moored on lake Vemanbad and had a delicious meal cooked for us while we watched a beautiful sunset .We awoke next morning to the sound of fisherman diving for mussels.
What a treat!!
