Long before you reached Illilouette Falls on your original hike, you will have passed Illilouette Creek over its footbridge. This is one area of the park that is generally turbulent, so the warnings against plunging or slipping into the creek are more conspicuous. If this is not enough to make you watch your step, you might have read park statistics on the annual deaths attributed to this kind of accident while scouting Glacier Point.
