St. Basil's Cathedral has always been my very favourite building in all Moskow!

It lies at the edge of the Red Square and was built in the 16th century. It was Ivan the Terrible who commissioned it. There is a legend that on completion of the church the architect was blinded, so that he could not ever build such a beautiful building again!

St. Basil's consists of nine individual chapels, each topped with a unique onion dome. The ninth chapel was erected in 1588 to house the tomb of Basil the Blessed.

Although the outside with those brightly colored domes seem to be so extravagant, the interior is much less spectacular yet worthwhile visiting.
