Wairarapa, New Zealand: 2 reviews and 2 photos

Masterton - is a rural town of about 20,000 in the hub of the prosperous Wairarapa Valley. The coast can get pretty wild and is known for its fishing, surfing and seals that are found there. There is a nature reserve where captive-breeding programmes are helping to save endangered native birds and the Mt Bruce National Wildlife Centre has some of the world's rarest birds.

Masterton lies on the rail line that passes through the Rimutaka Range tunnel to Wellington. The town is an easy day trip from Wellington .
