The Duomo of Siena is one of the most beautiful places of worship in all of Italy.
The magnificent cathedral was built in 1215 in a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic stylings. The stunning facade was actually designed in 1283 and is a mesmerizing marvel to gaze upon.
What initially really struck me about the interior was the stripped black and white pavement. Inside there are also fascinating and important works of art by such notables as Donatello.
Here is a tip. I initially visited the Duomo in the late afternoon at around 5:30pm in September. Since the interior is not well lit, it was very dark inside. It is a good idea to visit in the morning, when I went again, to truely appreciate the magnificence of the interior.

Directions: Just a short walk Southwest of the il Campo. It is hard to miss as the Duomo dominates the towns skyline.
