No trip to Auckland is complete without a walk around the beautiful Viaduct Harbour (formally known as the Viaduct Basin).

The Viaduct Harbour has plenty of history from when it started as a commercial harbour full of fishing boats to a now modern development of walkways, apartments, restaurants and offices.

The America's Cup and the Challenger Series' Louis Vuitton Cup were major events in Auckland in the 2002-03 summer which was when most of the modern development started. At the time, there were challenger boats from different parts of the globe all vying for the right to race Team New Zealand for the America's Cup.

It is possible to take a ride on a couple of the NZ boats (NZL40 and NZL41) used in previous America's Cup events. You need to go tot he Viaduct Harbour and in front of Degree Restaurant & Bar is the departure point. Sail NZ is the name of the operator and the sailing experience is 2 hours in duration. Cost is NZ$150 for adults.

Address: Viaduct Harbour Avenue, Auckland Region
Directions: At the western end of Quay Street.
