As if Rome did not have enough wonders, the island in the middle of the Tiber is like visiting another world. The 11th century church there fronts a modern hospital. The two bridges that link the island to the city (Ponte Fabricio - 62 BC, and Ponte Cestio - 43 BC) are along with the Ponte Sant'Angelo the city's most intimate connection with the river (that priceless urban feature in which Paris rather than Rome leads the world.)
