"Megiddo (better known as Armaggedon... (North)" Israel Things to Do Tip by leffe3

Israel Things to Do: 781 reviews and 1,392 photos

The name is more apocryphal than the site itself, which, whilst once an important city under David (known then as the Chariot City) became inexplicably uninhabited by the 4th century BC. Its positioning, however, made it strategically important and has featured in many battles and skirmishes ever since.

The ruins themselves constitute one of the smaller Israeli National Parks, but with an excellent (albeit small) museum indicating what was once on the site and the discovery of the underground water cisterns make it an interesting stopover when travelling round the western Galillee.

Directions: 2kms north of the Megiddo Junction on the 70 route between Haifa and Afula
