The Cloth Hall and Belfry of Brugge were built in the 15th century after it the original structure had burned down. The building that you see today is a monument to Brugge's magnificent manufacturing past. During medieval time Brugge was one of the most important financial centres in all of year. It's economy was largely driven by the wool and cloth trade. However Brugge fell into decline when the harbour silted up and trade was being dispersed to it's rivals Antwerp and Ghent.
The Belfry that you see today is 83 meters high and has a carillon consisting of 47 bells that ring out songs throughout the day. The views of Brugge from the top are awesome.
Directions: The Main Market Square in the Central Brugge.
