It is assumed that the building of the almost 100m high tower was started in 1444 and was completed in 1500. The tower symbolices the Mother of God, and the small lean-to tower the Christ child. This small tower actually houses the stairs leading to the top, but legend has it that the architect intended the silhouette of the small tower against the larger tower to symbolise the Virgin Mary and Child.
