As we were driving across the Western part of Canada when we moved from BC to Ottawa in August 1988, once we got to Ontario (which seemed to take forever to get across), we happened across Thunder Bay. While near Thunder Bay, we checked out the Terry Fox monument. Terry Fox was a young man who had lost a leg to cancer who decided to run across the country to raise money for cancer research. He started in Newfoundland and made it as far as Thunder Bay. In his memory and for his cause, 10-km runs take place every year all across Canada.
