"wildlife with a view" Catawba Favorite Tip by snakeman454

Favorite thing: Every spring around the end of May, a rare flower puts on one of the greatest shows in the "wild kingdom" The Rocky Shoals Spider Lily goes into peak bloom in the middle of the rapids here where around 20 ACRES of plants can be found! Three feet tall with 3 inch diameter white flowers they cover almost as far as the eye can see! Add a semi-challenging canoe or kayak float through the middle of them and you have an event of your lifetime!

Fondest memory: The lilies are impressive but the nesting Bald Eagles really spice up a visit.
