If you're looking for Australia's least exploited natural attraction, this could well be it.
The Oxley Wild Rivers National Park has gorges more dramatic than the Blue Mountains and some of Australia's highest waterfalls.
You can almost count the buses that visit any of it on one hand and the trickle of self-driving tourists is mainly confined to Dangar, Wollomombi and Apsley Falls (all recommended by the way). There is so much more to see that you could spend half a lifetime getting to places like the Cock's Comb.
If you are interested, I would recommend staying at a farm stay as some of them are right on the edge of the gorge but, if you prefer a motel, then Armidale and Walcha are two good bases.
