North of Kempsey, on the N.S.W. coast, is a spot called South West Rocks. Now, if I was devising an itinerary for people who wanted to see beaches and beauty spots they would be going Nelson Bay, Forster, North Haven, Point Plomer, South West Rocks etc. Basically, all the spots the highway buses don't go, and it has nothing to do with being less crowded (though they are), it's simply that they are much prettier and, at least with some of them, you can get a local bus.
South West Rocks has lovely beaches, exceptional fishing, a nice big river and some lovely headland walks, especially near the lighthouse and the old gaol (also open to tourists).
This shot is taken where the volunteer coast guard moors its craft and is immediately adjacent to a new hotel that opened in December 2002.
