New York's The Metropolitan Museam of Art is arguably the finest art gallery in the Western Hemisphere. For certain it is the largest. I think anybody who has even a minor interest in art should spend a few hours here.
The museum has something for everybody as the collections are quite expansive. There is the excellent European painting collection which is one of the best in the world. It seems that all of the great painters from the early Renaissance to the Modernists are represented here. Many pieces are masterworks and if you like to linger, you can spend your whole days visit here. The superb American painting collection is also worth a visit but unfortunately most of it was in storage during my last visit as these galleries were being renovated. Various collections featuring decorative arts. There are fine collections of arts from around the globe ranging from Ancient Persia to Japanese prints. It seems all aspects of the ancient world are covered from Peru to Greece. There is even a real Ancient Egyptian Tomb, mind you after visiting Egypt this struck me as ho-hum. When I visit New York this museum is for me the single most important attraction. In other words it is the main motivator for my visit.
