Uzbekistan Off The Beaten Path: 25 reviews and 46 photos
On our way to Turkmenistan we spent 2 nights in the capital of Karakalpakstan, Nukus, which looks like a truly forlorn place but surprisingly many people we've met were quite optimistic and proud.
We stayed at a private home, arranged by an employee of the hotel where we tried to check in but couldn't agree on the price.
Besides the daytrip to Moynaq, we passed our time mainly drinking vodka and eating watermelon or shashlyks on the local Broadway, where we enjoyed the company of very divers people.
Some of them students or American Peace Corps volunteers. Others Red Cross employee, local doctor or just the "everyday drunk". We even attracted attention of the Uzbek TV asking us for an interview. So many things happened....
Oh, museumlovers should not miss the Art museum (I heard).
