"New Years Eve in Scotland - Happy Hogmanay!!!" Scotland Things to Do Tip by DianeDundee

You have to come to Scotland for Hogmanay (New Year's Eve) just once in your life! In Scotland the traditional annual holiday was not Christmas (people used to work at Christmas) but New Year - or in old Scots Hogmanay! It was the biggest celebration of the year!
Edinburgh really is the place to be for New Year if you want a big party - but every town and city in Scotland will offer a warm welcome to visitors.

In Edinburgh they have a party that lasts for 3 or 4 days - candlelight parades, street parties, ferris wheels, music etc. with lots of things open even on the 1st of January (which is unusual in Scotland) - but Hogmanay is the biggest party of all - a massive street party in Princes Street - 250000 people! At the sound of the midnight bells everyone goes mad!!
Or how about fireball swinging in Montrose, concerts in Stirling, street parties in Glasgow or a more relaxed night in the local pub!
