"Plaza de Espana" Plaza de España Tip by acemj
Plaza de España, Sevilla: 92 reviews and 193 photos
This monumental plaza was built as the centerpiece of the 1929 Exhibition by architect Anibal Gonzalez and continues to be one of greatest, most photographed attractions. It was recently used in George Lucas' Star Wars film, the Attack of the Clones.
I was struck by the sheer size of the place and by the beauty of its proportions. The plaza curves around you in a half-moon and along the inner curve there are 50 azulejos (brightly colored tileworks) dedicated to the 50 provinces of Spain. While some of the details of the plaza are beginning to show their age, when you step back and look at it from a distance, it is truly a marvelous spectacle.
