DOLMABAHCE PALACE: This is the excerpt from my guide book:
"The design of the Dolmabahce palace is an amalgamation of 2 styles - half occidental, half oriental - a singular & baroque mix of classical orders with ornamentation evocation of the far off Indies. The 285 rooms & the 46 salons are in keeping with the overall mix of styles. The extravagant decorations include mural paintings by Russian & Italian artists, enormous candelabra in Bohemian or Baccarat crystal, & the sumptuous furniture."

Sounds great, isn't it? I've seen the pictures of the interior of the palace as well. It's as opulent as those of France & Austria. So, this is another must for me on my next trip to Istanbul. Yeah, I'm definitely going back!

By the way, Dolmabahce in Byzantine times means "filled-in garden". The original site was an inlet on the strait. The palace faces the Bosphorus, that's how I got to see it this time & it has a 814-ft (length) white marble facade.
