  Hagia Sophia - Interior
by Sharrie

Hagia Sophia is one of the 3 adjectives dedicated to God in Christianity. Hagia Sophia means Divine Wisdom; Hagia Irene (Divine Peace) & Hagia Dynamis (Divine Power).

The building Hagia Sophia was once a church for 900 over years during the Byzantine age & it stands now on the original site of the Great Church (Megalo Ekklesia') which was constructed by Byzantine Emperor, Constantine, in 360 AD. Currently, the building's interior is under renovation & it takes a great deal of time & effort to restore it to its original condition.

Upon entering the museum, one can see both Christianity & Islam co-exist today. The fresco of Jesus Christ & the Arabic written huge plates of Allah & Muhammed are found on the walls of the museum in the Nave. It's a very impressive sight & one can only wonder how long this state of affair can exist with all the confrontations in the world today.
