In the winter, the Rideau Canal freezes over to create the world's longest skating rink. Most Ottawans do this and many travel to Ottawa during Winterlude (weekends at end of January to mid February). There are concerts, ice and snow sculptures, parades, etc. But it really is cold!
Address: downtown Ottawa and along the canal
Directions: Canal is accessible by either Colonel By Dr or Queen Elizabeth
