  Valle Crucis Abbey
by sandysmith

This beautiful Abbey dates from the 13th century and shows the sheer scale of buildings in the 14th century. It was largely destroyed during the reign of Henry VIII.
Many original features remain, including the glorious west front complete with an elaborate, richly carved doorway, beautiful rose window and 14th century inscription 'Abbot Adams carried out this work; may he rest in peace. Amen'.
Note there is free entry in off season.

Directions: Just 2 miles outside Llangollen in North Wales, at the foot of the Horseshoe Pass.
