The statue was designed by Pheidias and completed in 432 BC. It was made of gold plate over an inner wooden frame; and stood alomost 12 m high on its pedestal. The face, hand and feet were made of Ivory and the eyes were fashioned from jewels. The goddess was clad in a long dress of gold with the head of Medussa carved in ivory on the breast. In her right hand, she held a statuette of Nike - The goddess of victory, and in her left hand a spear. On her head she wore a helmet, on top of which was a sphinx.
Directions: Just after Propylaia. It is in the middle of the Acropolis and visible from everywhere in the city.
