Norway in a Nutshell is a train, boat and Flam ride which takes you from Oslo to Bergen and back again. You ride on a train through the countryside and up the mountains. The jump in a boat which takes you up through the fjords which are waterways formed by glaciers melting. The narrow fjords are lined with waterfalls and small towns (eg. population = 40). Once off the boat you jump on a flam ride up high into the mountains, stopping at a huge waterfall. The scenery is so beautiful it literally steals your breath away. Very romantic, so don't go alone (a bad mistake on my behalf). Thoug at least I didn't have to fight anyone for the window seat!! I stayed overnight at Bergen and then couldn't leave it was such a cute town. The Nutshell train does go back each day so you can hop off and get the return date changed.
All and all. great trip. you can use your Eurail or buy it for about $280. Apparently you can buy the separate segments with your youth card and get it alot cheaper, though you run the risk of booking problems.
I'd never seen Scandinavia (spelling oops!) and the scenery was magnificant. It was at the start of my holiday as a solo traveller and as you spend the day travlling on number of different vehicles you met people and generally have a great time.

Directions: Norway in a Nutsehll. Buy it from the train station or travel agent.
